Triple success for the Sundukovy Sisters: At the Gold Key Awards ceremony in cooperation with the New York trade fair BDNY and the Boutique Design Magazine on 12 November in New York, the two sisters Olga and Irina Sundukovy were honoured with a total of three prizes: in addition to the “Designer of the Year” award and the victory in the “Best Casual Dining” category, the “Best Lobby Upscale” Award also honoured their stylistic work in the redesign of Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof.
This year, the Gold Key Award was presented for the 38th time in a row and is one of the most prestigious awards in the industry: in cooperation with the BDNY trade fair and the Boutique Design Magazine, it annually honours the most outstanding and innovative design achievements in the hospitality sector. Awards are presented in a total of 21 different categories.
Among the winners of the evening was the Russian design duo Sundukovy Sisters, who received the prize in the category “Best Lobby Upscale” for their striking work last year in the redesign of the Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof: The hotel’s new interior concept is both unobtrusive and individual, edgy and yet appealing. Besides elements of the Bauhaus style, Irina and Olga Sundukovy were also inspired by the hotel’s surroundings. Accordingly, numerous references to the neighbouring Zoological Garden can be found in the hotel’s furnishings – including the new seven-metre-high giraffe, which welcomes guests directly in the entrance area.
Also in the design of the hotel’s own restaurant “BLEND – berlin kitchen and bar”, the two designers succeeded in skilfully and yet unobtrusively presenting the hotel’s animal neighbours, for example with an oversized zebra as a special eye-catcher. Warm wood and dark green tones provide a successful contrast and create a cosy feel-good atmosphere.
