Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof - DESTINATION

DESTINATION

Berlin – hub and centre for innovation in the heart of Europe. This is where dynamic influences from all over the continent converge to make up the vibrant atmosphere of Germany’s capital. Whether for a conference or a weekend getaway in Berlin, the central location of Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof – between Kurfürstendamm and Tiergarten, close to Potsdamer Platz – makes it attractive for all city visitors.

The hotel is only a short walk away from KaDeWe, Germany’s most iconic department store, on Wittenbergplatz. Continental Europe’s largest store was opened in 1907 and is especially famous for its gourmet food hall on the 6th floor. It’s a few steps past the shops along Tauentzienstrasse to the Europa-Center. This heritage mall is home to more than 70 stores and restaurants as well as a permanent exhibition on the Berlin Wall. Behind the Europa-Center, Tauentzienstrasse becomes Kurfürstendamm. Berlin’s best known shopping boulevard, affectionately known as the Ku’damm, is just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.

The beginning of the Ku’damm is marked by one of Berlin’s most memorable landmarks: the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The ruins of the Romanesque Revival church, destroyed in World War II, have been maintained as a war memorial.

In addition to the many shops in the immediate vicinity of Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof, its location opposite Berlin Zoo is ideal for guests with families. Germany’s oldest zoo opened its gates in 1844 and today houses the most species of any zoo worldwide. Its impressive residents include elephants, hippos, gorillas and polar bears.

To the east, the zoo borders the Tiergarten park. Many of the hotel rooms look onto Berlin’s “green lung” whose jogging and cycle paths are a magnet for sporty Berlin visitors. The Victory Column on Grosser Stern in the heart of the Tiergarten offers views across the 210-hectare park as far as the Brandenburg Gate.

No other Berlin monument embodies the German capital’s turbulent history more than this gate. During the 30 years of the Cold War it could not be passed. Now, no longer the symbol of the division of Germany, it has become the symbol of its reunification. From Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof, it’s a 3km walk through the Tiergarten to the Brandenburg Gate.

Also close to the hotel are the theatres in the Berlin neighbourhoods of Charlottenburg and City West. The Stage Theater des Westens presents modern musicals, while the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz is devoted to classical and modern drama. The Deutsche Oper, Berlin’s largest opera house, and the Staatsballett Berlin are also only a few minutes’ drive away.
